Meeting a Bae sister...
On Monday, September 24, I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Yee, one of our California Bae sisters. I met Yee on bb's blog (thanks bb) and kept in touch with Yee via emails. In August, Yee said she would be visiting Las Vegas to attend the Celine Dion show (which closes it's run at the end of the year) and asked if I would like to meet. OF COURSE I WOULD. So we confirmed plans and finally met. Because of my schedule, Yee agreed to meet me at 7:30am (thanks Yee for getting up early while here). She was staying at the Tropicana Hotel
So, after I arrived at the hotel, I called Yee to let her know I was waiting in the lobby/registration area for her. I also told her what I was wearing so she could identify me. She did the same. I was excited and anxious to finally meet her. Then, I see this lovely lady walk up the stairs and once we made eye contact, it was like meeting an old friend again. We hugged and introduced ourselves and just felt connected. It was smiles all around. We made our way to the coffee shop where we could enjoy breakfast. Sorry, we didn't take any pictures of our food. It wasn't anything exciting - typical breakfast - an omelet for Yee and corned beef hash w/eggs for me. We were so excited that we took a while to decide on what to eat. Then, we exchanged gifts. Yee brought me goodies from California's Knotts Berry Farm - shortbread cookies and preserves. Oh so YUMMY!
And then....she gave me this....
This was a surprise! A truly wonderful gift and one that will be cherished for many many years.
I shared with Yee some gifts from Hawaii...macadamia nut/caramel chocolates, macadamia nuts, Kona coffee and a Hawaiian Flower Calendar for 2008.
While we waited for our food, I shared with Yee some magazines that I brought with me. You should have seen her face as she looked at YJ's pictures. Her smile - as wide as the Grand Canyon - with each and every picture she looked at. We chatted about our dear MAN and talked about his work and what he has brought to our lives. It seems we both started with Winter Sonata not too long ago and have enjoyed everything since. We sat in the coffee shop for almost 2.5 hours chatting away like old time friends. We also talked about our children and how we both feel so blessed to have good kids. We strayed a bit to discuss other K-dramas, but always came back to discussing YJ.
It was about 10am so we left the coffee shop and found a place to sit for a bit before I had to leave. We continued our discussion and I had an opportunity to meet Yee's sister and friends. It was a very enjoyable morning finally meeting and making a new friend. I now understand what it means to meet a Bae sister, like many of you have done over the years on this Bae journey, and I look forward to meeting more and more of you in the future.
Yee - thank you again for your kindness and warm heart. Our meeting is only the beginning as we travel on this road....hopefully leading us to Baeland one day soon.

i'm such a busybody! i just love love love to read meetings amongst bae fans! esp first meetings...
hehe, i guess some of us can be a wee bit apprehensive about meeting fellow fans, esp if we haven't met anyone before... you go like, would it be awkward? would we run out of things to say after the first 5 mins? would she like me? would i like her? what gifts should i bring? so many questions... hee, guess it's truly unfamiliar grounds for most of us.
but more often than not, the meetings are such a riot! time just sped by without anyone noticing... bae-topics just kept coming up and everyone just kept chatting excitedly. and before long, hours had passed us by.
was it like that, vegas?
i remember there were even times when we would spend something like 8 hours just yakking away about him... hee...
anyway, am so glad you ladies caught up... but oh boy, 7:30am?!!!
pics, pretty pls?
Dear vegas,
I'm so happy for both of you!! It's such a heart warming moment, and do hope we could meet up when you are back to Malaysia for vacation!! Thanks for sharing!
Loves, xiaoyi
Hi bb!
Exactly!! All those thoughts cross your mind which only adds to the excitement and anxiety. But somehow, having corresponded with Yee for a while, it seemed like I knew her. And of course, meeting someone you've only known on the net can be even more scary because you just don't know...you just hope all goes well and you get along. If time were not an issue, I would have spent the whole day with Yee and I know we would have lots of things to discuss. But, as you said, time goes by so quickly...*sigh*. All in all it was a great experience.
thanks so much for dropping by.
take care!
Hi Xiaoyi!
Looks like sometime next year I'll be there for a visit. We've been talking about our plans - hope all goes well on this end to be able to travel then.
thanks for your support and kind words. i look forward to meeting you too!! Bak kut teh? Satay? We must go!!
take care!
next year doesn't seem near enough :p
hi dear vegas,
I'm so looking forward to this post and thank you for sharing. Your meeting w/ Yee sounds so nice and I am drooling over your breakfast, I love corn beef hash w/ eggs!
I agree with bb and xiaoyi, it's such a heart warming experience to meet other Bae sisters, especially the ones we always communicate with. No matter how far apart or how infrequent you meet, the moment you see each other, you feel like old friends already.
I wish I had that courage to meet you when I was in Vegas back in January, then I would have sweet memory of another lovely sister. I forgot where Tropicana is, I stayed at the Venetian (hehe, near the Fashion Mall), is it at the opposite end of the strip? Hehe, I remember going to both Bellagio and Paris and kept asking my hubby to take pictures, remembering Frank Shin walking from his limo to the hotel lobby.
I wish both you and Yee a blossoming sisterhood, and for you dear vegas, to meet more BYJ sisters for the years to come, like in DD-Land next year?
love ... jaime
I know bb.... I know....
This year has gone by so fast.
Yee and I also touched on wanting to travel to Baeland or "DD" land as Jaime as mentioned. I believe Fendi wants to go again too. Oh heck, WE ALL WANT TO GO!!!
hiya jaime!
so wonderful to read your post.
thanks for your kind words too!
meeting other Baesisiters is truly a heartwarming experience. They are the only ones who understand you when you talk about YJ and get all glassy-eyed when you see his pictures...who else would understand such feelings?
I wish I had met you too. But no worries, we will meet one day soon. I'm sure of that.
The Tropicana is down at the south end of the strip. Venetian is across the Mirage near the Fashion Show Mall. You know your locations. The next time you come to Vegas, we will take that stroll down Hotelier memory lane - we'll walk the path that Frank Shin took from his limo to the front door, we'll walk in front of the Bellagio fountains and run like Han Tae jun...and if it's still there, we'll see the house where HTJ and Jenny were living...all of this and more. If i knew which elevator he rode in or which room he stayed in I'd take you there too...but....aaahhh just having such memories would be so much fun. The only place I'm not too sure of is the restaurant. Could have been a backlot studio for all I know. But nevermind...we will enjoy the fond memories of Hotelier.
I hope to get to Baeland or DD land one day soon...would be such an honor to meet all of you!
thanks again!
hehe my dear vegas, I think you will make the best Las Vegas Hotelier tour guide, much like Mr. Koh on Jeju TWSSG site. Just by reading where you are going to take me, I already feel like hopping on the next plane to Vegas!
We are soooooo lucky to have you in Hotelier city :)
Hi vegas,
How excited!! I stil remember when I first met with Yee in April this year, she is a such nice and young lady. Glad you two can met up and had a wonderful time together. I really hope that we can make this trip to DD land next year, got to plan well.....looking forward to it!!!
